3/4 size John Juzek Double Bass, black Prague label, 1950s
This contrabass has spent a lot of time in a New York school orchestra and has definitely seen its share of action. Somebody etched “Red Sox #1” on the player’s side – easily referred to around the shop as the “Red Sox bass.”
While looking pretty tired out, this upright bass had its share of updates over the years, including a reset of the neck projection (see details). A nice thick fingerboard looks fairly recent. It does have some plate cracks that we’d be happy to address with you. This is an old warrior that deserves an owner looking for tons of character in an instrument! As usual, we can provide full guidance on any range of restoration for this Juzek double bass.
